Brexit latest news: PM narrowly wins Customs Bill vote with majority of three after 'caving in' to revolt

The Government has narrowly avoided a defeat on its Customs Bill after Theresa May "caved in" to pressure from Tory Brexiteers to change the wording of her Chequers plan for leaving the European Union.

MPs voted by 305 to 302 to support an amendment tabled by Eurosceptics that critics said would undermine Mrs May's recently announced trade proposals.

Hardline Brexiteers led by Jacob Rees Mogg put forward amendments to the Bill aimed at imposing strict conditions on the Prime Minister after she produced a plan that would keep the UK closely tied to Brussels' rules on goods and food.

The Government announced earlier that it accepted all four reforms to the Bill sparking fury among pro-European Conservatives.
